Workshop Facilitation

Objective

Teck had ambitions for enabling their workforce as “digital makers” – using low-code development to bring essential applications into production and benefit the organization.

My role on this project involved facilitating workshops, conducting user interviews and creating the enablement playbook. Our goal was to understand their current state, review their goals and develop a playbook of prioritized activities to further enhance their enablement program.

what does teck do?
Teck is one of Canada’s largest mining companies with operations across North and South America, Teck Resources focuses on long-term sustainability, responsible operations, and advancing innovation.
process
Our initial step involved engaging with the Digital team and seasoned app creators to map out the current state. This was achieved through a series of collaborative workshops. Following this, we conducted in-depth interviews with employees from diverse departments to identify their specific needs and any reservations they had about adopting the new technology.

Insights gathered from interviews with the core team and a few advanced makers on the project
One of the big insights we had from these workshops and interviews was the target audience needed to be users of Power Apps before they can become makers. This required developing apps they can use before teaching them to create their own.

Our research culminated in identifying several key themes that needed to be addressed to effectively implement the new technology.

solution
We created a custom training program for Teck on using Microsoft's low-code and automation tools. This program was divided into three phases:
phase 1: building the foundation
‍focused on setting up the basics, including creating a toolkit and framework, establishing internal rules, and providing technical advice.
phase 2: growing awareness and practice
‍This phase focused on getting Teck employees using the tools through training, workshops, hackathons, and individual consulting.
phase 3: Scaling and Improving Performance
The final phase aimed at increasing adoption, creating individual learning plans, and developing a playbook with goals and performance metrics.Throughout all three phases, the two teams worked closely together to ensure the training, learning pace, and available resources were well-coordinated.
the process
A landlord begins the process by creating a rental application, that is filled out by potential applicants.

These applicants then complete the application, connect their banking information and identity verification.

The landlord can then review potential applicants through a personalized financial report and shortlist or reject the applicant.
